The Khoboy Cape Uzur, guided car route, total distance 100 km, duration 68 hours, group size 810 pax
This route goes along the northern part of the island, there are the most picturesque places of Olkhon you will remain in your memory afterglow. You can make a lot of photo and video stops on the way. From the Khuzhir settlement your route will lie through the wood to the village of Kharanzy and then up and downhills along the edge of the forest to the village of Khalgai. You will admire the beautiful view of the Maloe Sea and the Primorsky Range.
Passing by the village of Peschanaya: its an abandoned place and in the Soviet post-war times there used to be a fish factory where prisoners worked. Nowadays, there is only a bridge and two houses left from it and its rest is covered by the sand. The village of Peschanaya is well known because of its sand-dunes which remember you on the ocean shores and stilts-trees which roots are made naked by the regular Baikal winds and they create a lot of amazing shapes on the sandy beach. We leave the village and our route goes up and downhill to the place called Sasy, here the steppes begin. The part of your way Sasy Khoboy is very interesting because of its landscapes: a lot of hills, capes and small woods covered by many-colored lichens. The great Sagaan Khushun Cape is already to see. This cape is also called Three brothers and it is a must-stop for every tour around the island. The famous Siberian writer Rasputin W. described in the high admiration this cape like one of sacred places of Shamanism.
From the Khoboy Rock it opens the magnificent view to the Baikalsky Range with its Ryryi Cape and peninsula Svyatoi Nos, Barguzin Bay. You can even see Ushkani islands by the good weather. There are some of interesting places on the way from the Khoboi Cape to the village of Uzury and you will enjoy the unity with the Baikal nature and feel its primordial essence. The village of Uzury is a cozy bay on the eastern shore of the island. You will have a stop for the picnic here, nearby the beautiful lake with water birds. The appetite comes to you with each smoke from the fire where the traditional Baikal fish soup and the smoked omul fish are prepared by our staff.

The Shara-Nur Lake is the only one lake on the island situated in the mountains. It might be translated from Buryat language as the Yellow Lake. Its respected by the locals because of its healthy moods. Its warm water temperature, small depth are convenient for bathing. The breath of the wind, water birds, beautiful landscapes make you feel the real pacify.

This Lake is situated in the steppe part of the island, it has connection with the Baikal Lake by the small brook and only the sand beach separates it from the Baikal. The water is here warmer than in the Maloe Sea. This lake is the most popular place for fans of bathing and fishing. The shore of the Maloe Sea is cliffy, there are many archeological memorials in the low places on the shore: the memorials of the last Stone Age and the Iron Age, Mongolian times. These are the sacred places and burial grounds.

Tyshkine is the only one place on the eastern part of the island you can get by car. It was a Buryatian village many years ago, nowadays there are one house left. Its very beautiful place: in the low place here runs the brook surrounded by various trees. The cliffy shores on the both sides of the bay are very convenient for fishing. The sits and burial places of ancient people since the times of last Stone Age till the 19th century were found here by the archeologists.

The tour goes to the southern end of the island where the Bolshoe Sea (Baikal) starts. The hills on the way are covered by the gold karagana, Baikal endemic. Khalzany is an old left Buryat village, on the southern side it opens the magnificent view of area: blue channel Olkhon gates with its capes and the land part of Olkhon. Like the silent eye-witness stand there the signal towers of ancient Kyrykans. There are a lot of places saved from the Kurykans times here and in the place called Nury.

Its the route along the south-eastern shore of Olkhon. The meteorological station and the laboratory of Siberian institute of earth crust are situated on the way. The bay is surrounded by the high cliffs from the northern and southern side. After 2 hours walking uphill on your right opens the beautiful view of the Baikal Lake and the northern end of the island. The left side of the bay is remarkable because its amazing marmorealstones which look like people heads. Thats why the name of this place Tolgoy is translated as the head. Uzury is well-known because of its archeological memorials of the last Stone Age

The Cape Budun rises under the Maloe Sea and the name was given to it because of its enormous sizes and high, Budun can be translated like heavy. On the way from the village of Kharanzy to the cape you will admire the beautiful view of the Maloe Sea with its small islands Kharansa, Mogoto, Edor the places silver seagull nesting. The cliffy shores of the north-western Budun part are the most popular among the fishing fans. The deposits of corunds (ruby stones) were found here by the geologists. Upon request you make a stop on the back way in the Buryat village of Khalgai, where the traditional Buryat houses yurts left. You can taste the traditional Buryat dishes.

Its the tour through the steppe part of Olkhon, youll smell the mountain grass aroma. The route goes to the picturesque bay of Khuly the place of Baikal omul fish. On the highest point of the mountain there are 2 Olkhon Sfinxes stone figures standing in the steppe. From the Khuly place we will get to the place called Khargoi which is well-known because of its archeological memorials. There are many memorials from the Kurykan times, ritual complexes and burial places of the last Stone and Iron ages.
